The what ???

The Vesdunoises (named after the Vesdun inhabitants) are a contemporary interpretation of the quilt (or patchwork blanket), designed and made to measure by MADE IN LA FRANCINE, in the heart of Berry, in the centre of France. They elegantly adorn beds or sofas, while providing soft, natural warmth thanks to their organic wool filling.

Hand-quilted on a loom reproduced identically from a traditional model, they are then assembled and finished by hand, before being edged with piping. Each piece is thus made using traditional craftsmanship, resulting in a unique, durable and singular creation.

The Vesdunoises and their matching cushions, made in an eco-friendly way by reusing all scraps, are available for purchase online. For any custom creations, please specify your preferences — dimensions, materials, colours — via the ‘Contact’ section at the bottom of this page.

After the first models, designed in a Japanese style, the collection has been enriched with new interpretations: contemporary prints — printed canvas on the front and recycled and dyed bis canvas on the back — or two-tone satin versions, combining a bright front with a contrasting back, highlighted by delicate piping.

100% artisanal and one of a kind

Each Vesdunoise, named after a real Vesdun’s woman, tells a story. It begins in the meadows of Vesdun, where Jacques and Alice raise their sheep, a beautiful union of Romney and Suffolk breeds. Their organic wool is used to create a soft and warm filling, carefully washed and carded in Haute-Loire by Laurent Laine, the last French company to master the entire process of raw wool treatment.

The European linen or pure cotton fabric that envelops this wool enhances the material, offering a lightweight, insulating and naturally warm quilt (density: 300 g/m²). Each Vesdunoise is the result of meticulous craftsmanship, a rigorous selection of materials and a passion for artisanal work.

An object of beauty and comfort, it is designed and made in France, embodying the perfect combination of elegance, authenticity and respect for the environment. A piece that warms the body and soul, carrying with it the history of the people and lands that shaped it.

Where does the concept come from?

The idea began to take shape during a discussion with another artisan from Vesdun,
Claire Salin, cabinetmaker, sculptor and… sheep shearer!

She also incorporates wool into her creations and is a member of the LAINAMAC collective, which actively promotes the revival of the French wool industry and all related crafts.
